Wildfire flares in Southern California

(CNN) -- Crews battled a 2,000-acre wildfire in Southern California's Kern County Monday, fire and forestry officials said.

"Fire crews will be working through the night attempting to contain the fire," the U.S. Forest Service and Kern Country Fire Department said in a joint statement late Sunday. "Weather conditions and rugged terrain continue to be a factor in suppression efforts."
