Thousands evacuated in Indian capital due to flood threat from Yamuna river

NEW DELHI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Local authorities in the Indian capital have evacuated thousands of people safe areas and shut down a steel bridge over the Yamuna river in the capital as the river's water level continued to rise Saturday, said officials.

Meanwhile, the neighboring state of Haryana, which has been hit by flood in the monsoon season, has been releasing water into the river upstream, causing the water level in Yamuna to rise to 206. 66 meters Saturday morning, or two meters above the danger mark.
